Dr Mikaela Smee Clinical Psychologist, Director of Inter Psychology, Psychology-Board approved clinical supervisor

Mikaela is a registered and endorsed clinical psychologist and board-approved supervisor. She completed an 8 year pathway of clinical training culminating in a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at Victoria University in 2016. Her doctoral research explored the determinants of mental health for trans and gender diverse people in Australia. Mikaela has gained broad clinical experiences in public and private hospitals in multidisciplinary teams, secondary schools and in private practice. Prior to entering full-time private practice, Mikaela worked as a senior clinical psychologist in the Gender Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Mikaela provides treatment to children, adolescents, adults and families. She provides a caring empathic space that fosters exploration of the challenges that are present and is committed to providing effective assessment and treatment in a respectful, thoughtful, and collaborative manner. She has a special interest in parenting and family mental health; gender diversity; life stage and transitions; and, understanding the impact of child development on adult wellbeing.

Mikaela uses a meaning-making and relationship-centred approach that is informed by psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory and neuroscience. Mikaela’s personal style is warm, curious, open, and exploratory.
